The founder of the Somerville Highlander Alumni / Alibrandis Baseball Team and YBL All Star player David Treska was inducted into the National Semi Professional Baseball Associations Hall of Fame's 2013 Class.  Treska started the team in 1990 and went on to play for 16 seasons, making 5 All Star teams, winning 2 Gold Gloves and being on the field for 8 Championships.  As team president he has served on the Board for 15 years, being named Executive of the Year in 2009 with the team being named Franchise of the Year 3 times.  "I was very surprised to hear of this honor when I got the call from Tim Turpin, but am truly honored and could not be happier for being inducted to the NSPBA Hall of Fame", Treska said when asked about this award.  The ceremony will be held at time to be announced in 2013, plese check on the NSPBA website for infomation.  image
For the 13th time the Somerville Alibrandis Baseball Club has won the Yawkey Baseball League's Championship.  The team earned the series win with a dramatic 7th inning to walk off with the game 5 win 4-3 over the Malden Bulldogs in winning the series 4 games to 1.  Marc DesRoches was named the YBLCS Most Valueable Player.  image
The Somerville Alibrandis Baseball team defeated the Stoneham Sabers 3-1 in round 2 of the 2012 Yawkey Baseball League Playoffs to advance to their 13th Finals apperance.  This was the 1st time these two teams meet up in postseason, with the local 9 taking droping game 1 of the series and were able to take the next 3 to win the series this past Sunday at Recreation Park in Stoneham.  This sets up a rematch of the 2011 YBLCS against the Malden Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs advanced by upsetting the Al Thomas Athletics 3 games to 1.     Please click on the headline link to go to the Yawkey Baseball League website for schedule, live twitter updates and complete box scores.
The Somerville Alibrandis Baseball team defeated the South Boston Saints 3-0 in round 1 of the 2012 Yawkey Baseball League Playoffs.  This was the 6th time these two teams have meet up in postseason, with the local 9 taking all of the series with a impressive 21-1 all time record against the Saints.  After playing a very familiar foe the team will now take on a 2nd year franchise they have never meet in round 2.  The Stoneham Sabers advanced by upsetting the East Boston Knights in a 3 game series weep.   The schedule is set to start later this week, please click on the headline link to go to the Yawkey Baseball League website for schedule and score updates. 
Former Somerville Alibrandis pitcher Scott Oberg was drafted in the 15th round by the Colorado Rockies in the 2012 June ameteur draft.  Oberg played for the Somerville Alibrandis at the end of the 2007 season and went on to enjoy a great collegate career at UConn.  Oberg made one apperacne and struck out 3 batters with a 0.00 earned run average pitching 2 innings.   Oberg joined the short season A ball affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, the Tri-City Dust Devils.   Please click on the headline link for a full story from the Tewksbury Patch website.     image
